
Hydrogen water equipment ranges from a $200 bottle to a multi thousand dollar kitchen installation.
Oddly, the sales conversation often begins with a machine rather than with the buyer. Let us correct that.
Before anyone recommends a hydrogen water system, they should be able to answer these ten questions.
1. What do you want the system to do Is filtration the priority, hydrogen the priority, or both? A water filter and a hydrogen generator are not automatically the same thing. Some excellent generators have modest filtration. Some excellent filters produce only a modest hydrogen level.
2. What is in your incoming water? Town water, rainwater and bore water are different starting points. Hardness and total dissolved solids can also change the performance of electrolysis equipment. If a salesperson recommends the same system to everyone, he is recommending stock, not solving a water problem.
3. Is the hydrogen measured directly Look for dissolved H2 expressed as ppm or mg/L? Do not accept pH or ORP as a substitute. They measure different things.
4.How quickly will you drink it? Hydrogen escapes. A system that produces water directly into your glass has an advantage over water stored for hours in an open jug.
5. What contaminants does it reduce? Ask for product specific evidence covering the contaminants relevant to you. Chlorine, chloramine, fluoride, lead, PFAS and microplastics require different media or barriers. The word purified is not a test report.
6. Does it waste water Reverse osmosis rejects a portion of the incoming water. Electric ionisers also produce an acidic stream. That may be acceptable, but buyers should know before installation.
7. Does it remove the minerals? RO strips out most dissolved minerals and may require remineralisation. A mineral retaining filter takes another approach. Decide which philosophy suits you.
8. What must be replaced Add filters, membranes, cleaning cartridges and servicing to the purchase price. A cheap machine with expensive proprietary replacements can become the costly option.
9. Who supports it in Australia? Imported equipment is easy to advertise and much harder to repair. Check warranty arrangements, spare parts and whether you can speak to someone who understands the machine.
10. Will you actually use it? The perfect specification is useless if the machine is awkward, slow or hidden away. Convenience determines consistency. For a straightforward filtration first solution, the UltraStream is hard to beat. For a dedicated under sink hydrogen system, the Higen 2 Plus deserves consideration.
